Call for applications: Board of Directors

The Canadian Partnership Against Cancer is seeking a qualified candidate who is First Nation, Inuit or Métis and who wishes to serve on the organization’s Board of Directors.

The Partnership is an independent organization funded by the federal government to accelerate action on cancer control for all Canadians. It brings together cancer survivors, patients and families, cancer experts and government representatives to implement the first pan-Canadian cancer control strategy. The Partnership’s vision is to be a driving force to achieve a focused approach that will help prevent cancer, enhance the quality of life of those affected by cancer, lessen the likelihood of dying from cancer, and increase the efficiency of cancer control in Canada.

General responsibilities

The successful candidate would be expected to attend Board meetings (at least four meetings per year) in cities across Canada as well as participate on one of the committees reporting to the Board. Committee meetings are usually held via teleconference, and like the Board meetings, would be at least four times per year.

In addition, the successful candidate would be expected to chair semi-annual meetings related to the Partnership’s First Nations, Inuit and Métis action plan. This time commitment would be between five to 10 hours per year.

Qualifications

Candidates should have strong relationships with the First Nations, Inuit and Métis communities, have experience working with National Aboriginal Organizations, and understand and be able to speak to the health and wellness challenges and considerations of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples. Candidates should also have a working knowledge of the health-care jurisdictions involved in the provision of health services and programs for First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples living in remote, rural and urban communities.  Experience/ knowledge of cancer control is an asset, but not required.

A completed letter of interest along with a biographical profile should be forwarded to Victoria Faric, Board Liaison, by March 4th, 2011.

Submitted letters of interest for this vacancy will be presented to the Governance and Nominating Committee of the Partnership’s Board for review. The Committee will then make its recommendation to the full Board, which will fill the vacancy. Only the name of the individual appointed to the Board will be made public.
