2024-25 Annual report
Looking ahead
In the coming year, CPAC will deepen its focus on eliminating barriers to high-quality cancer care, accelerating progress in areas where momentum has been building. With a clear commitment to reconciliation, health equity and system sustainability, we will continue to work closely with provinces and territories, community-led organizations and health system leaders to drive measurable impact across the cancer journey.
As CPAC enters the final two years of its 2022–27 business plan, we remain focused on delivering measurable results across priority areas and supporting partners to implement and evaluate what is working to improve cancer outcomes across Canada. By sharing evidence, fostering collaboration and accelerating progress in areas with strong momentum, CPAC will continue driving system-wide improvements that advance the goals of the Canadian Strategy for Cancer Control:
- Eliminating cervical cancer in Canada by advancing the priorities of the pan-Canadian action plan, including the integration of HPV primary screening and exploring approaches to self-screening.
- Advancing First Nations, Inuit and Métis priorities by supporting Peoples-specific governance and self-determination in cancer systems, expanding access to culturally appropriate care and data, and continuing to co-develop approaches to measurement and accountability.
- Accelerating uptake of lung cancer screening by working with jurisdictions to implement and expand organized screening programs, particularly for populations facing high risk or historic exclusion.
- Improving access to palliative and end-of-life care by collaborating with partners to implement community-based models of care, strengthen the palliative approach in underserved settings and integrate First Nations, Inuit and Métis priorities.
- Strengthening cancer data systems by continuing to build a more complete picture of who is being diagnosed, treated and surviving cancer in Canada and supporting improved data collection for underserved populations.
- Enabling collaboration across Canada’s cancer research community by supporting the 2025 Canadian Cancer Research Conference and other efforts to foster knowledge exchange across the research landscape.
As CPAC works with partners to shape the next five-year strategy, we will continue to listen to community voices, apply what we have learned and prioritize collaborative solutions that create lasting, person-centred improvements across the cancer system.
