Strengthening cancer screening through innovation and equity
CPAC continues to play a crucial role in ensuring that screening programs across Canada are informed by evidence, innovative technologies and shared expertise. Our work across lung, cervical, breast and colorectal cancer screening has led to significant advancements in program quality and accessibility. Here are some program highlights:
- CPAC collaborated with provinces and territories this year to deliver updated environmental scans across four cancer types: lung, cervical, colorectal and breast. These scans highlight real progress in strengthening recruitment and follow-up strategies for underserved populations. By capturing successes and challenges across jurisdictions, CPAC is helping close equity gaps, promote early detection and support continuous quality improvement.
- CPAC convened provincial and territorial breast screening partners, explored decision-making frameworks, ensured robust tools and evidence are available to inform policy decisions, and collaborated with the Public Health Agency of Canada in support of the Government of Canada Breast Cancer Screening and Prevention Action Plan.
- In colorectal cancer screening, a working group of the National Colorectal Cancer Screening Network developed guidance that summarizes the evidence on the age to start colorectal cancer screening to inform provincial and territorial decision making.
By focusing on both programmatic excellence and innovative delivery methods, CPAC is helping ensure that cancer screening programs across Canada continue to evolve to meet the needs of diverse populations and leverage new technologies to improve access and outcomes.
