Breast cancer screening program performance results in 2007 and 2008 (2013)

Read this 2013 evaluation of how organized breast cancer screening programs in Canada performed during 2007 and 2008

This document presents an evaluation of the performance of organized breast cancer screening programs in Canada for the calendar years 2007 and 2008. This report uses data from the Canadian Breast Cancer Screening Database, including all provinces and one territory. Evaluating the data of organized breast cancer screening programs helps to make sure that the programs are high quality and easy for Canadian women to access.

To help understand the performance of the breast screening programs, this report explores 12 quality indicators, including:

  • The proportion of women screened annually
  • Sensitivity of the mammography screening program
  • Biopsies that aren’t cancerous
  • A more complete description of diagnostic intervals

This report also examines trends in organized breast cancer screening from 1999 to 2008. In general, performance was consistent over time.
