You are invited: a Community Forum on cancer research

Hear first-hand from Canadian researchers about achievements in cancer research in the areas of prevention, screening and treatment. A first-time event, the Canadian Cancer Research Conference Community Forum is a unique opportunity for members of the public to ask questions, engage in a discussion, and meet leading researchers.

Spread over the course of an afternoon, the program is divided into two sections featuring a series of short dynamic presentations by seven cancer experts. The first section examines research into common adult and pediatric cancers. These presentations focus on major research findings, changes over the last 40 to 50 years and their impact, as well as areas for improvement. The latter part of the program explores major Canadian research projects and innovations that have potential to improve outcomes.

Highlights include the Ontario Institute for Cancer Research’s 2011 Robert A. Phillips Lecture on childhood acute leukemia. The Canadian Partnership for Tomorrow Project, a Partnership initiative to determine the causes of cancer and other chronic diseases, will also be among the work being showcased. The informative and inspiring afternoon will close with an informal mix and mingle for presenters and attendees.

All members of the public with an interest in cancer are welcome to attend the Community Forum. This is a free event being hosted by the Canadian Cancer Research Agency and presentations are structured for a non-scientific lay audience.

The Canadian Cancer Research Conference Community Forum will be held in the Essex Ballroom of the Sheraton Centre Toronto at 123 Queen Street West in Toronto on Sunday, November 27, 2011 from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m.
