Canadian Partnership Against Cancer welcomes new Board Chair Dr. Darren Larsen
June 26, 2025
The Canadian Partnership Against Cancer’s (the Partnership) Board of Directors welcomes long-standing member Dr. Darren Larsen into his new position as Chair.
Since joining the board in 2019, Dr. Larsen has brought passion and enthusiasm in support of the Partnership’s goals as steward of the Canadian Strategy for Cancer Control (the Strategy).
“As chair, my role will be to ensure the Partnership continues to advance the priorities of the Strategy in positive, effective and strategic ways,” says Dr. Larsen. “Two in five people in Canada are expected to be diagnosed with cancer and the Partnership remains committed to designing and implementing initiatives with partners that improve cancer outcomes for everyone in Canada.”
Throughout his time on the board, Dr. Larsen has demonstrated a deep respect for collaboration, equity and reconciliation that will continue to shape the board’s work moving forward.
“The Partnership’s commitment to equity and reconciliation is embedded in all initiatives to ensure all people in Canada have equitable access, experience and outcomes. From preventing cancer before it starts, to increasing access to cancer screening, to supporting life after cancer, this core focus ensures people can access the system, stay in the system and move through the system regardless of who they are, or where they live,” says Dr. Larsen.
We also recognize and thank our outgoing Chair, Jeff Zweig, for his leadership through his many valuable years of service. During Mr. Zweig’s time on the Board, he was a champion of the Partnership’s ability to improve the cancer experience for Canadians through collaboration with partners across Canada. Under his leadership, the Partnership accelerated the planning and implementation of new screening programs in all provinces for people at high risk of developing lung cancer, released the pan-Canadian Cancer Data Strategy with the Canadian Cancer Society and moved Canada closer to the goal of eliminating cervical cancer.

In his new position, Dr. Larsen will continue working alongside current board members Dr. André Corriveau, Dr. Michael Crump, Linda Dempster, Sylvia Doody, Dr. Janice Fitzgerald, Dr. Desirée Hao, Peter Kaftarian, Ingrid Kirby, David Lai, Dr. Jean Latreille, Dana MacKenzie, Dr. Doreen Neville, Michelle Owen, Shannon Ryhorchuk, Andrea Seale, Cheryl Smith and Jocelyne Voisin.
