Guidelines are statements, based on evidence, that steer clinical practice and policy decisions. High-quality guidelines are powerful tools that promote appropriate practice, inform investment in new technologies and enhance quality improvement programs. In patient care, for example, guidelines provide a basis for quality, consistent care developed from the best available knowledge.
The Partnership's support for the development and implementation of high-quality guidelines includes advancement of an adaptation methodology that uses the framework of existing guidelines to help cancer groups efficiently develop guidelines in their own areas of focus, and applicable to their context.
Our strategy is aimed at building capacity for evidence-informed decision making, using social networks and technology platforms to transfer knowledge and skills across provincial/territorial jurisdictions.
Cancer control knowledge and expertise are widely dispersed throughout Canada’s health-care system. To draw on this experience and knowledge and make it readily accessible to all stakeholders, the Partnership is advised by collaborative networks of volunteer experts, including patients and survivors and family members. These are our Advisory Groups.
The mandate of the Cancer Guidelines Advisory Group is to champion the optimal use of evidence for cancer control in Canada. This is accomplished by working with our partners in evidence development, adaptation and implementation across the country. Our approach to achieving our mandate within the challenging Canadian health-care context is through capacity enhancement to attain more equitable distribution of skills related to evidence-informed decision making and practice, and the development and nurturing of sustainable pan-Canadian platforms for action.
Partnership Advisory Groups (formerly called Action Groups) are undergoing a membership renewal process which is to be completed by April 1, 2010. For more information about Advisory Groups please contact info@partnershipagainstcancer.ca.
