René Gallant

René Gallant is a past national President of the Canadian Cancer Society. At the Cancer Society he served on the national board of directors for five years, including two years as President, following five years of service on the Nova Scotia Division board of directors. His advocacy has contributed to changes in legislation in Nova Scotia, such as the adoption and improvement of legislation banning the sale of tobacco to minors and in pharmacies, and the creation of smoke-free public spaces.

He has led numerous committees and working groups, including a group that extensively consulted with volunteers and staff members on how services would be delivered by the Nova Scotia Division of the Canadian Cancer Society.

Mr. Gallant is vice-president, regulatory affairs, with Nova Scotia Power. He is a graduate of Mount Allison University and Dalhousie University Law School and was admitted to the Nova Scotia Barristers Society in 1995.

Mr. Gallant lives in Hammonds Plains, Nova Scotia.
