Carol Sawka, MD
Carol Sawka, MD, FRCPC, is Vice-President, Clinical Programs and Quality Initiatives, and Chair of the Clinical Council for Cancer Care Ontario. In that role, she works with clinical leaders across the province to improve the quality and coordination of cancer care.
Since 1988, Dr. Sawka has been a Medical Oncologist at Toronto Sunnybrook Regional Cancer Centre where she specializes in the management of breast cancer.
After heading the Division of Medical Oncology/Hematology at Sunnybrook & Women’s College Health Sciences Centre and the Systemic Treatment Program at Toronto Sunnybrook Regional Cancer Centre, Dr. Sawka was, in 1999, appointed Vice-President, Regional Cancer Services at Sunnybrook & Women’s College Health Sciences Centre, where she was responsible for leading the Comprehensive Cancer Program there and working with Cancer Care Ontario as Regional Vice-President, to develop a regional network of cancer care.
She continued in that role until February 2005 when she was appointed to her current role. Dr. Sawka’s research interests include health services research, quality of life and clinical trials in breast cancer. She is an Associate Professor in the Departments of Medicine, Public Health Sciences, and Health Policy Management and Evaluation at the University of Toronto.
Dr. Sawka is a member of the University Of Toronto Department Of Medicine Quality Committee and the Ontario Wait Time Advisory Committee.
